Destination Wedding Locations

Choosing a Destination Wedding Location

So, you and your fiancé have decided that you would like a destination wedding. You will keep it small, invite a few of your closest family and friends to come away with you for the event, while you spend another week or two soaking up the sun and the sites for your blissful honeymoon. But in which of the many fabulous potential locations should you get married?

Most Popular Destination Wedding Locations

The Florida beaches, Caribbean islands of  Barbados, Jamaica and Aruba, Hawaii and Las Vegas, are among the top destination wedding locations. While many couples like the idea of a beach wedding, some couples like the excitement and glitz of Vegas. Of course there are many other different and wonderful destinations for a wedding.

If you are searching for the best destination wedding locations, then you should look at the popular destinations to get some idea of what they are like and see if one of them fits into your own vision of a perfect wedding venue. For example, if you are avid mountaineers or skiers, then you may prefer to have your wedding in Aspen, Colorado or in the Swiss Alps rather than on a hot tropical beach.

Destination Wedding Ideas

Just having a destination wedding is unique and special enough for many brides and grooms, however, if you want additional ideas for what to do at your nuptials to make things even more different, here are a few:

  • If the bride and groom are very adventurous, they may want to exchange their vows while skydiving or on an amusement park ride.
  • If you want something tropical but not on a beach, some destinations have ruins or a quaint country church that can be a wedding location. Or maybe a trek into the rain forest will lead you and guests to a lush green jungle clearing under a cascading waterfall
  • Dress casually for your beach wedding with all the bridesmaids and grooms men wearing matching flip flops and the men wearing island flowered shirts.
  • In a warm tropical location, the bride can wear a cool white sundress with a crown of fresh local flowers in her hair instead of a veil.
  • Have your wedding music in the local style. For example, consider having steel drums instead of a string quartet or a DJ.

Do Thorough Research

There is a lot of information on the internet. But you can also discuss options with a local travel agent that specializes in the types of places you are considering. You will want to plan your destination wedding many months in advance because of the additional arrangements needed for scheduling and travel, getting time off from work, sending invitations, etc.

Be sure to make your arrangements with a reputable wedding specialist or destination resort that can not only handle your travel and accommodations but can assist with acquiring as well as filing any legal documents, arranging for your officiant, and in general, giving pointers that are pertinent to your chosen destination. If you select a destination wedding package, make sure you know what is included and what is not … Even all-inclusive packages have extras, though most packages offer a wedding coordinator to help schedule your day plus answer your questions.
