Saving Energy at Your Wedding
Some Ways to Conserve Energy at and Before Your Wedding
A wedding is a once in a life-time event but you can still be consious of and limit your impact on the environment by making some small adjustments in planning and decorating. There are so many ways to reduce your energy usage at your wedding. Here are just a few ideas
If you are not working with a planner to help find all of your wedding services, you should attend at least one wedding show in your area. At the show, in one place, you will find all sorts of service providers like florists, musicians, DJs, cake bakers, caterers, venue locations, dress shops, officiants, etc.. So, in addition to surfing the interest, shows are another way to discover these necessary service providers without putting a lot of mileage on your car.
Consider an outdoor summer wedding with lots of natural light. In June the sun will usually be shining until about 8 or 9pm before artificial lighting needs to kick in. Even this can be limited by careful use of candles, tiki torches and low wattage solar path lighting. Do ask your outdoor venue for permission to decorate with any flammable materials.
Car pooling to the ceremony and reception location will help; having the ceremony and reception at the same location will help even more. If all out of town guests stay at the same hotel, car-pooling or shuttling can be both practical and fun. And here's the "triple play" - If possible, have your visiting guests stay at the same location as your reception and ceremony. Not only will this save gasoline use but your guests can enjoy your company and each other's company before and after the wedding event!
