Like a wedding-song all-melting Sings the nightingale, the dear one. – Heinrich Heine
With a smaller number of guests, it is easier to have a simple wedding. Even if you are on a budget, there is no reason why you can’t have a great wedding. Fewer guests generally mean less expectations and less stress as well as a lower cost.
While a ceremony in a public park or gardens is nice, there are generally limits on having reception food, music, alcohol and privacy. For fewer guests, consider renting out a small resort or bed and breakfast with a lawn or courtyard. You will have more flexibility on what you can do than in a public park, as well as the privacy you may not have in a public location. Also, you and your out of town guests can lodge right at the property. The staff will work with you to help keep things simple, yet go out of their way to make sure your day is special.
An intimate reception can have all the class of a fancy one but without the hoopla. Whether you have a buffet or plated meal, cocktails or a keg of beer, passed hors d’oeuvres or a fruit and cheese plate, your guests are there to enjoy the conversation and sharing of your commitment to each other.
With a smaller, informal wedding, all of sudden it is easier to come up with creative wedding reception ideas that are fun, and save you money. In lieu of more formality, you may consider a theme, based on a specific type of music you like, or other activities you and your fiancé enjoy. For example, if the venue allows, serve a barbeque and hire a bluegrass band.
Or it can be simple, but formal. Have a string quartet, with people dressing more elegantly in lightweight dresses, shirts and ties. The food can be cocktails, martini’s, and hors d’oeuvres, such as sushi and lobster croquettes.
