Cupcake Wedding Cakes and Cupcake Stands

romantic-poetry_clip_image002 Cupcake wedding cakes are a more recent trend at the modern wedding reception. A couple can choose to have only wedding cupcakes, or, they can have one small single tiered, decorated, traditional cake, in addition to the cupcakes. Having the traditional cake allows them to have a focal point for the cutting ceremony, a place to put their bride and groom (or other) topper, or a piece of wedding cake to save for their 1 year anniversary.

Wedding Cupcake Ideas

Having custom cupcakes at your wedding is an acceptable way to offer your guests wedding cake yet be “modern” and generally save on some on the cost. The cupcakes are typically baked to similar standards of a regular white wedding cake that has a moist cake and yummy fillings. They will be more simply decorated, without the gum paste pearls, ribbons, flowers, and other expensive adornments. These embellishments along with a topper, can still be on your small focal cake.

Before the wedding cupcakes are served to guests, display them in a place of honor at the reception, such as on a special table. However, these individual portions should first be wrapped in cupcake wrappers and then put on specially made tier cupcake stands, cupcake towers or cupcake trees.

Types of Wedding Cupcake Stands

The bride and groom have many possible ways to proudly display their wedding cupcakes. They can put them on an elegant serving plate or on a tiered cupcake stand. If they choose stands, their cupcakes will  rise off the table surface in the form of a tower or tree. Here are a few possibilities:

  • A wedding cupcake tree is a tiered display rack that may be either round or square. The lower tiers hold more cupcakes while the upper ones hold fewer.
  • Some tiered cupcake stands are made of metal or wire with the metal scrolled at various places to grip each individual treat
  • A foil covered strong cardboard stand that looks like a nice high-end serving piece for the wedding event yet is made for just one use
  • Strong corrugated cardboard provides the base for another type of cupcake stand. This structure can be disposable but you can decorate it or otherwise cover it with non-toxic paint, etc for multiple event use. For example, after the wedding you can use it for your Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas party
  • A glass pedestal dessert stand can be used to artfully display your wedding cupcakes or other treats, if you only need one level. If there are too many treats, you can use more than one pedestal.
  • Some cupcake stands are laminated with a coating like Formica and are sturdy, easy to clean and reuse
  • One could use a glass pastry stand with a single metal “spine” through all levels of the glass platters
  • Another type of tiered glass platter is actually multiple sizes of separate platters with their own pedestals. Each platter can stand on top of the larger one below it to look like one tall, elegant server
  • You can have separate party stands that stand alone but are sold in sets. These are like little tables with metal legs & clear plastic round tops. they may link to each other for sturdiness.
  • Use a tier cake stand with cupcakes on the lower tiers and your small focal cake on the the top tier
