Traditional Wedding Reception Activities

What Traditionally Happens at a Wedding Reception?

A traditional wedding reception has different activities depending on the time of day that it is held. Generally wedding reception entertainment will involve music for dancing but this wedding reception music can take many forms. wedding-reception-activities_clip_image002

An evening reception will usually be a bit more formal and have the traditional dances such as the First Dance, Bride and Father, Groom and Mother and perhaps a Money Dance or Ethnic Dance. A day time reception may center around a barbeque or picnic and outdoor games.

Most receptions will have some dancing, lots of food and drink, a champagne toast made by the best man and a cake cutting ceremony.

Of course, the guests will converse with each other and the bride and groom will make their rounds among the guests and thank them for sharing in their happiness. Hopefully guests from both sides of the new couple’s family will mingle and get to know each other.

Games can also be played at a wedding reception and the type of game is up to your imagination. Needless to say some games work better at an outdoor reception while others are more appropriate at a seated reception. See Wedding Reception Games for ideas!
